Live online sync any number of desktop/laptop with your Blackberry Smartphone
I hope most of the blackberry user who have gone through the " Free Blackberry Application - Part 1' are happy with the information.
Some of the readers gave me the feedback that, although they were aware of facebook blackberry application updates but Viigo RSS reader came as a surprise and extremely useful in gathering relevant information in one place on their blackberry.
As you know that ,Cloud Computing or Online Storage is gaining momentum for its advantage of accessing stored information from any computer 24/7 and some of the service providers like ibackup.com are even offering the facility to view and download folders and files on your blackberry also.
However these services are not free ,so i shall talk about it later.
Now .the ability to access your folders and files stored in a free online storage facility from Desktop , Laptop and also from your Blackberry could enhance your productivity exponentially.
Hence the question :) is there an application available for total integration of your online storage initiatives ; i mean creating, storing, viewing, downloading the folders and the files on/from your PC,Laptop and obviously the Blackberry smartphone ?
To the best of my knowledge , there is no such known free application currently available but yes. i could make it possible with some research work and going to share the details with you :
Desktop/Laptop Configuration
Step 1 : Open the site http://login.live.com/ and sign up for a live account.Readers , who are already registered with live may please go to the next step
Step 2 : Open the site http://live-mesh.software.informer.com/ and download Live Mesh as made clear in the image below
Step 3 : Install live mesh on your desktop/laptop and log on with your credentials.
Step 4 : Follow the steps to complete installation formalities ,including addition of the your desktop to the network and creation of the folders you want to synchronize.
Step 5 : Transfer all your documents to relevant folders you have just created and watch how quickly these contents start getting uploaded to your web account.
Step 6 : Repeat above steps to install live mesh in other computers/laptops you wish to add to your personal network on live
Step 7 : Start saving your documents and download in those folders only
Now you will notice the same set of folders in all computers across the network and any work you save in any of these folders in any computer are now accessible from the remaining in your network.
Well, now let me explain the procedure to access these folders from your Blackberry.Officially, Microsoft is yet to make this facility mobile friendly but it works on blackberry at least.
Blackberry Configuration
Blackberry inbuilt browser is up to the mark for regular users but i would suggest a better browser called mini opera, which i have been using successfully for both simple and advanced requirements for more than 2 years.
Step 1 : Point your inbuilt blackberry at mini.opera.com and download the application
Step 2 : Follow the instructions and install it successfully
Step 3 : Open http://www.livemesh.com on mini opera you have just installed and log on to your live account
Step 4 : You will be greeted with a summary of activities performed recently.Ignore it for the time being and click on Folder icon at the top.All your folders will appear on blackberry screen
Step 5 : Open a folder and click on a document to check if it is working properly on your hand held.
Step 6 : Inside the folder you will find 2 options ,1.upload and 2.Menu.Let us focus on downloading first and click on any document pref a doc file.In the next screen ,click on download icon
Step 7 : Here you will be given 2 choices, either view it on your inbuilt browser or save it in your hand held.
Choice is yours but now you can access all your documents from your Blackberry. HAPPY ?
Now you will be surprised to know that - you can even edit the downloaded document on your blackberry and upload it to live folders , either replacing the original or as a revised copy.
For that purpose , you may use the in-built free office application called "Documents On The Go".However , it may not be available in the older models.
Now for uploading the documents , pl go back to step 5 and click on "Add File" button.Rest i am sure is not a difficult job.
